Bar Prep Coordinator

Location: Long Road Distillers Grand Rapids
Supervisor: General Manager
Compensation: $18.00 – $21.00 per hour

The Bar Prep Coordinator at Long Road Distillers has a range of responsibilities focused on ensuring the seamless preparation and availability of cocktail ingredients across all locations of the distillery (Long Road Grand Rapids, Long Road Grand Haven and Less Traveled). This role provides an excellent opportunity for growth within the hospitality and beverage industry, offering exposure to both the creative and operational aspects of bar management, making it a pivotal position within the organization.

  • Prior experience in a similar role, ideally in a bar environment with a strong understanding of cocktail or food ingredients strongly desired;
  • Experience as prep cook, line cook or other culinary venture a plus;
  • A solid foundation in culinary or bartending fundamentals, ingredient interactions and flavor balance strongly desired;
  • Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently;
  • Must have strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with suppliers and internal team members;
  • Self-motivated and a self-starter;
  • Enjoys problem-solving;
  • Must possess a desire to stay curious and explore creative new ways to wow our guests and create memorable experiences through our beverage program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include (but are not limited to):

  • Oversee the sourcing, storing and stocking of all ingredients required for cocktail production, such as fruits, herbs, spices and other mixers
  • Ensure freshness and quality control of ingredients
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manage inventory to keep costs within budget while maintaining supply levels that meet the needs of all locations
  • Assist in the development of standardized prep techniques for all cocktail ingredients to ensure consistency across all venues at all times
  • Follow written recipes to batch syrups, tinctures, bitters, liqueurs, cordials, infusions and other cocktail components to streamline bar operations
  • Collaborate with bartenders, managers and other team members to create new cocktails and refine existing recipes
  • Test and introduce new ingredients to enhance cocktail menus, when appropriate
  • Implement and oversee processes to ensure that all prepared ingredients meet Long Road standards of quality and safety
  • Regularly audit the preparation process and adjust practices as necessary to improve efficiency and quality
  • Monitor keg inventory and needs between locations
  • Communicate with managers from each location to ensure par levels are set appropriately and inventory is maintained at all times
  • Maintain appropriate organization of all ingredients utilized in the beverage program
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment is maintained at all times

The work environment is fast-paced, and the role requires physical stamina, including lifting and prolonged standing.

Long Road Distillers, Grand Rapids’ first craft distillery, is adding part-time servers to our talented, energetic, and creative team. We work hard, enjoy what we do, and take pride in our spirits and level of service. We are dedicated to creating an exemplary experience for each and every customer, and need your help to accomplish that. We are looking for a self-starter who will quickly amass an in-depth familiarity with Long Road’s spirits and signature cocktails, as well as the operations of our bar and dining area. As the first line of service at Long Road, our bartenders and servers must be able to educate customers on our spirits, from the milling of the grain, all the way to the glass as part of a proper cocktail.

This a part-time opportunity with the potential for working at both of our Grand Rapids locations, growth and advancement.

Experience:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include (but are not limited to):

  • Greet guests, take beverage orders directly from guests and from other service staff
  • Check identification of guests to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol
  • Collect payment for drinks and food orders served and balance all receipts
  • Serve drinks, snacks, and food orders to guests seated in dining area
  • Clear tables of dishes, utensils and glassware and bring to kitchen for washing
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of spirits, cocktails, and food menu in order to answer questions or educate guests on LRD process and mission
  • Participate in regular trainings to learn about LRD spirits, drinks and food
  • Maintain a clean working area by sweeping, cleaning, and sanitizing as needed
  • Ensure chairs and floor area around tables and waiting area are clean
  • Assist with other duties as needed, particularly during opening and closing shifts
  • Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards

Assistant Manager/Floor Lead – Grand Haven

Location: Long Road Distillers Grand Haven
Supervisor: General Manager
Compensation: Hourly + Tips

Long Road Distillers Grand Haven is hiring an Assistant FOH Manager and Floor Lead for the upcoming Summer Season. We are looking for an energetic and positive team player to come help lead our FOH staff. If you are a problem solver, who wants to curate an awesome customer service experience while fostering a positive and supportive work environment for our amazingly hard working staff – this position is for you.

  • Minimum 1 year cocktail bartending experience desired;
  • Minimum 3 years customer service experience;
  • Self-motivated and a self-starter;
  • Enjoys problem-solving;
  • Experience working with craft brands desired;
  • Staff management and leadership experience desired;
  • Passionate about brand building;
  • Enjoys customers;
  • Enjoys employees;
  • Willingness to work long hours, primarily weekends and evenings;
  • Serve Safe Manager or TIPS Manager training prior to start date (employer supported)

Experience:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include (but are not limited to):

  • Be presence on floor during service hours, assisting FOH staff in creating a great customer experience;
  • Praise and recognize staff in real time;
  • Be an ambassador to for the Long Road Brand for customers;
  • Troubleshooting issues that arise;
  • Assist with new hire training;
  • Maintain appropriate staffing pars throughout busy and not busy times;
  • Lead daily pre-shift with staff;
  • Ensure all staff have all assets needed to achieve successful communication during shift, ie: printed menus and feature sheets;
  • Assist in coordination of prep needs and deliveries;
  • Positively and effectively coach staff to deliver LRD standards of service
  • Handle customer concerns and praise.

Line Cook/Prep Cook – Grand Rapids

Location: Long Road Distillers Grand Rapids
Supervisor: Head Chef
Compensation: From $18.00 per hour

Long Road Distillers in Grand Rapids, is looking to add a Line Cook to our talented, energetic, and creative kitchen team. We work hard, enjoy what we do, and take pride in our spirits, food, and level of service. We are looking for a self-starter who will quickly amass an in-depth familiarity with the kitchen’s operations so that they may assist the Executive Chef and Prep Cook in preparing appetizers and entrees, maintaining a clean working environment, and ensuring the highest quality experience for our customers and guests.

  • Be precise and detail oriented
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with prep cooks, wait staff and Chef
  • Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hot environment
  • Flexibility with job duties and shifts, willing to arrive 10 minutes prior to assigned shift
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and safety best practices
  • Knowledge of cooking procedures
  • Manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills
  • Prior experience in related food service positions preferred

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

    • Restaurant Experience: 2 years (Required)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include (but are not limited to):

  • Correctly prepare all food served following standard recipes and special diet orders
  • Prepare food in collaboration with Executive Chef so that excellence, quality, temperature, and appearance of food is achieved and preserved
  • Keep work area neat and clean at all times; clean equipment used in food preparation
  • Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards.
  • Observe proper food preparation and handling techniques
  • Wash dishes and pots and operate dish washing equipment
  • Empty trash containers as required
  • Maintain a friendly work environment through constant, positive communication
